Typically, the subject of the investigation was either an active part of a major occasion or has made an extraordinary statement or proposal that has been documented. Barbara Heck did not leave any letters or written statements. The evidence of the date of her wedding was not important. For the vast majority of her adulthood, there are no primary sources that can be used to determine her intentions and actions. But she is a heroic figure in early North American Methodism theology. It is the task of the biographer to explain and define the myth of this particular case and then to attempt to depict the person who is portrayed in it.

Abel Stevens, a Methodist historian, wrote this article in 1866. Barbara Heck is now unquestionably the first woman to be included in the history of New World ecclesiastical women, thanks to the progress made by Methodism. Her accomplishments will be largely due to the setting of her precious name made from the past of the famous cause with which her memory will be forever linked more from the history of her personal lives. Barbara Heck, who was not in the least involved in the beginning of Methodism both in the United States and Canada she is one of the women whose fame stems from the tendency of a successful organisation or movement to praise the roots of its founding to enhance its belief in continuity and tradition.
